9th Grade

Ninth grade marks the exciting start of a student’s next step in their academic journey and we are excited to be with them as they begin to contemplate both their educational aspirations and personal ambitions.

During freshman year, we focus on laying the groundwork for their future academic exploration and personal growth. Our counselors help our students get curious about their interests, identify strengths, and set realistic goals for high school and beyond. 

We help our 9th grade students: Get Curious and Get Organized

  • Get Curious: about their academic journey by helping them plan their high school curriculum with courses they get excited about and which are appropriately challenging for their learning profile.
  • Get Curious: by encouraging them to explore a variety of extracurricular activities and summer opportunities. 
  • Get Curious: by engaging students in book clubs, writing workshops and volunteer activities. 
  • Get Organized: by helping students maintain a healthy balance through our signature Big Three exercises
  • Get Organized: by exploring their athletic recruiting/audition/portfolio process.

Through personalized guidance and support, we ensure that our students continue their journey with confidence, clarity and always a bit of fun!

10th Grade

During a student’s sophomore year, we meet with students to dive deeper into their interests and when they are ready, begin to explore potential paths for life after high school. Our counselors assist students in refining goals, planning their academic trajectory, and discovering extracurricular opportunities that align with their interests. With our guidance, our students will be equipped to make informed decisions that set them on the path that is engaging and fulfilling and of course have fun along the way!

 We help our 10th grade students: Get Curious and Get Organized

  • Get Curious: about their academic journey by helping them plan their high school curriculum with courses they get excited about and which are appropriately challenging for their learning profile.
  • Get Curious: engage students in discussions about 9th grade activities and encouraging them to explore their continued interests along with new  activities and summer opportunities.
  • Get Curious: about the world around them by encouraging their participation in Working Towards Change, College Bound Advising’s unique community service nonprofit division for teens.
  • Get Organized: help students strategize and plan for SAT/ACT standardized test preparation
  • Get Organized: encourage increased autonomy though direct communication with our counselors. 
  •  Get Organized: help students put in systems to develop or strengthen their study habits.
  •  Get Organized: introduce students to our signature Phases of College Admissions philosophy with our CBA Planner and activities.
  • Get Organized: by exploring their athletic recruiting/audition/portfolio process.

11th Grade

During their junior year we encourage our students to stay focused on the present, while slowly peeking into the future, Junior year is a pivotal time in the college exploration and application process, and our counselors are here to guide our students every step of the way – at their pace. 

From creating a balanced college list to preparing for standardized tests and refining application materials, we provide comprehensive support to ensure that our students present their best self to prospective colleges and universities. And if they decide they need to pivot their plans, our counselors are here to listen and help them and their families explore additional options.

Through increased meetings and workshops we offer our students personalized tools and strategies to navigate their process and of course make sure they have fun along the way.

We help our 11th grade students: Get Curious and Get Organized

  • Get Curious: about their increased independence in their academic journey by helping them plan their high school curriculum with courses they are excited about and which are appropriately challenging for their learning profile.
  • Get Curious: engage students in discussions about current activities and encouraging them to explore potential leadership opportunities or deeper involvement while exploring new  activities and summer opportunities.
  • Get Curious: about exploring a variety of different aspects of college life including but not limited to academic offerings, location, size, clubs, internships and study abroad options.
  • Get Curious: about telling their story through essay writing support and guidance with our signature College Bound Writing systems and activities.
  • Get Curious: about the world around them by encouraging their participation in and perhaps taking on more responsibilities through Working Towards Change, College Bound Advising’s unique community service nonprofit division for teens.
  • Get Organized: assist in setting up systems to help students organize college tours and other admissions opportunities that make sense for them.
  • Get Organized: our signature College Bound Planner keeps our students on top of their research as they search for “right fit” schools.
  • Get Organized: aid in implementing of systems to engage in understanding the specifics and deadlines for each college.
  • Get Organized: with our CBA Writing process – helping students plan out a system that helps them stay on track to complete their essays weeks before their first deadline. 
  • Get Organized: offer tools and strategies to assist in the completion the Common Application or school-specific applications. For the past four years, 89% of our students submitted applications at least one week before their first deadline.
  • Get Organized: help navigate and organize financial aid/scholarship options.
  • Get Organized: by exploring their athletic recruiting/audition/portfolio process.

12th Grade

During senior year, we’ll help students navigate the final stages of the college application process with confidence, poise and of course fun! From crafting compelling essays to preparing for interviews and making final decisions, our counselors are by our students side, offering expert guidance, support, empathy, humor and some fun as they embark on this exciting new chapter of their lives.

We help our 12th grade students: Get Organized – and Stay Curious – AND GET IN

  • Get Organized: assist in setting up systems to help students organize any additional college tours and other admissions opportunities that make sense for them.
  • Get Organized: our signature College Bound Planner keeps our students on top of their research as they search for “right fit” schools.
  • Get Organized: aid in implementing of systems to engage in understanding the specifics and deadlines for each college.
  • Get Organized: with our CBA Writing process – helping students plan out a system that helps them stay on track to complete their essays weeks before their first deadline. 
  • Get Organized: offer tools and strategies to assist in the completion the Common Application or school-specific applications. For the past four years, 89% of our students submitted applications at least one week before their first deadline.

Confused about how to get started researching colleges? Let us help you build a customized list that’s suited to your child’s needs and goals. A dedicated advisor works individually with students to fully understand your child and your family. We then give you the tools you need to further vet and visit colleges on the list we curate together.

When it’s “crunch time” for Seniors, we can help! Students can join a multi-week group workshop to learn and master the steps of applying to college and completing the Common App. Programs run periodically throughout the spring and summer. 

We know that thinking about writing the college essay can be stressful for many high schoolers. Some students can’t imagine how they have a story worth telling in 650 words. Others have so much to say, they don’t know how they will extract the best parts and winnow them down to a compelling narrative. That’s where our curriculum helps. Our signature Essay Writing Service, Only 650 Words, teaches students our signature 8Ps of Writing approach, and guides them through the process from wherever they start, and in a variety of instructional formats.
