Essay Advising

We love college application essays. But we know not everyone does!

For some students, it can be one of the most feared and dreaded parts of the application process.

Because the college essay is so open-ended, students can quickly become overwhelmed.

To help students avoid feeling overwhelmed, our experts break down the writing process into manageable steps using our CBA signature 4 P’s Writing Process.

Our personalized yet systematic approach helps even the most reluctant high school student produce a college essay they are proud to submit. We might even have a little fun along the way!

So if your student is wondering:

With CBA, students will:

  • Understand the purpose and proper approach for writing a personal statement.
  • Identify personal characteristics and ways to highlight individual strengths through writing.
  • Create meaningful and compelling essay topics.
  • Plan, develop, and execute an outline.
  • Draft their personal statement.
  • Gain an understanding of what to include in supplemental questions.
  • Understand how to answer the various supplemental essay questions colleges may ask.

Perfect for the student who needs individualized attention, this is a great way to get to a final draft of a powerful college essay.

  • 5-hour packages or 10-hour packages are available.
  • In-person or virtual options are available.
  • Assigned a dedicated essay specialist.
  • Personalized advice on essays of your choice.
  • Signature “College Essays that Wow” Workbook.

Our workshops provide students with the tools and skills necessary to craft an exceptional college essay that will impress admissions officers.

Using our proven approach to the writing process, students will learn what colleges are looking for and how to approach some of the most common essay questions, including the popular “Why School X,” “Tell us about an extracurricular activity that is important to you,” the UC Personal Insight Questions and the main personal statement for the Common and Coalition Applications.

Here are just a few of the benefits students receive from attending our workshops:

  • Individualized attention: our workshops are designed to be small, so students receive personalized attention from our experienced instructors.
  • Brainstorming sessions: we help students generate ideas for their essays and guide them in choosing the best one to showcase their strengths and unique qualities.
  • Writing exercises: we provide writing exercises to help students hone their writing skills and develop a strong narrative.
  • Best practices: we teach best practices for writing a college essay, including how to grab the reader’s attention, structure your essay, and showcase your personality.
  • Feedback and editing: students receive feedback and editing from our instructors and peers to help them refine their essays.
